Michigan 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Crowns Champions

The 2024 Michigan 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest brought together 67 youth from across the state to test their knowledge of the dairy industry. Held on June 29 at Michigan State University’s Anthony Hall, the event featured teams from 10 counties, including two that joined the competition for the first time.

Traditionally hosted during Michigan 4-H Dairy Days at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, this year’s contest moved to the last Saturday in June, providing new opportunities for teams and participants. Despite the change in venue, the excitement, learning, and camaraderie remained strong.

Contest Highlights

  • Format and Preparation: Teams—either single-county or multi-county composites—competed in multiple rounds, answering industry-related questions. A written test determined senior team seedings, while both written and contest scores were used to identify top individual performers.
  • Champions:
    • Senior Division: Clinton County’s Landon Thelen, Willow Evans, and Cassidy Harris claimed the title.
    • Junior Division: Washtenaw County’s Evan Weidmayer, Grace Weidmayer, Amelia Harris, and Harlee Bristle earned top honors.
    • Novice Division: Clinton County’s Ellie Fedewa, Molly Smith, Jolene Smith, and Kylie Smith won their category.
  • Top Individuals: Sophia Nielsen (senior), Grace Weidmayer (junior), and Kylie Smith (novice) were recognized as overall high scorers.
