Michigan State University’s Department of Animal Science has named Tony Jandernoa of Dutch Meadows Dairy LLCas the recipient of the 2025 Dairy Farm of the Year Award, recognizing his contributions to the Michigan dairy industry through innovation, leadership, and sustainability.

Since 1958, this prestigious award has honored outstanding dairy farms across Michigan, highlighting excellence in farm management and industry leadership. Jandernoa, a first-generation dairy farmer, has exemplified these qualities by growing a thriving operation while implementing sustainable farming practices and supporting the broader agricultural community.

A Legacy of Growth and Innovation

Jandernoa founded Dutch Meadows Dairy LLC in 1987 and expanded his operation with the establishment of Meadowbrook Dairy LLC in 2016. In late 2022, his family further grew their business by acquiring Berlyn Acres in Fowler, increasing their milking herd by 2,000 cows and significantly expanding their land base. Today, the family manages 6,000 milking cows and 3,200 youngstock across three facilities, maintaining 4,000 acres of cropland dedicated to producing corn, alfalfa, sorghum, and triticale.

Jandernoa has been a leader in sustainable dairy farming, pioneering innovative manure management systems. His farm was an early adopter of sand lane technology, which separates sand from manure, improving nutrient management while supporting expansion efforts. He has shared his expertise at industry events like the Great Lakes Manure Expoand contributed to research and development in sustainable agriculture.

Advancing Sustainability in Dairy Farming

Meadowbrook Dairy is set to launch anaerobic digesters and gas upgrading equipment in early 2025, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy. These digesters will produce renewable natural gas, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and helping power the farm with clean energy. This investment underscores Jandernoa’s forward-thinking approach to sustainable dairy production.

Beyond on-farm innovations, Jandernoa has taken on key leadership roles in the dairy industry. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) and Chair of the Farmer Sustainability Advisory Committee, actively shaping policy and advocating for industry-wide sustainability efforts.

Commitment to Education and Community

Jandernoa and his wife, Patti, are dedicated to agricultural education and community outreach. They hosted the inaugural MSU Breakfast on the Farm in 2009, welcoming the public to learn about modern dairy farming. They have also participated in MSU Extension research studies, the Alta Advantage Showcase Tour, and educational visits for high school and university students, ensuring that the next generation of farmers gains hands-on experience and knowledge.

His longstanding commitment to dairy excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including the Michigan Farmers Master Farmer Award, the Farm Bureau Philanthropy Award, and multiple MMPA Quality Awards.

The 2025 MSU Dairy Farm of the Year Award will be officially presented at the MSU Dairy Industry Celebration and Recognition Banquet on April 24, 2025.
