ADM Animal Nutrition, a division of ADM (NYSE: ADM), has issued a recall for specific pelleted animal feed products due to potential mineral imbalances that could pose risks to cattle. Some products may contain elevated levels of copper, while others have lower-than-represented amounts of zinc, both of which can impact animal health.
Potential Health Risks
Chronic copper toxicity in cattle can lead to symptoms such as loss of appetite, abdominal pain, lethargy, diarrhea, and dehydration. Meanwhile, zinc deficiency can result in reduced feed intake, poor feed efficiency, and slowed growth.
No illnesses or adverse effects have been reported so far.
Affected Products and Distribution
The recall involves 33 lot numbers of pelleted feed distributed between January 16, 2025, and February 27, 2025, across Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Iowa, Georgia, and Ohio. Most recalled products have elevated copper levels, except for GROFAST32, which contains lower-than-expected zinc levels.
ADM identified the issue during routine production checks and promptly initiated the recall upon confirmation of the mineral inconsistencies. The company is actively notifying affected customers and distributors while removing impacted products from retail shelves.
What Customers Should Do
Customers can find the lot number on the bottom of the product label. Those who have purchased recalled feed should stop using it immediately and return it to their distributor or ADM for a full refund or replacement.
For customer inquiries, ADM has provided a helpline at 800-217-2007, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time.
