Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 continues to pose challenges to animal health across North America. As of this date, 618 affected premises in 16 U.S. states have reported cases of HPAI in livestock, with 278 cases confirmed in the last 30 days, accounting for 45% of all cases. The term “livestock” encompasses confirmed cases in cattle, alpacas, and swine. The latest breakdown of cases by state and livestock type is available on the USDA HPAI Interactive Map.
To date, no cases of HPAI have been detected in Canadian dairy cattle.
Animal Health Canada continues to collaborate closely with government bodies, veterinary associations, industry stakeholders, regional and national surveillance networks, and laboratory experts to monitor and address this evolving situation.
