Secretary Brooke Rollins recently convened a roundtable discussion with two dozen farmers to address key agricultural concerns, with a primary focus on combating avian influenza and reducing egg prices. The conversation also covered broader challenges affecting the farming industry, including disaster relief, market expansion, rising input costs, and regulatory burdens.
During the discussion, Secretary Rollins emphasized the administration’s commitment to revitalizing rural economies and addressing inflation-related challenges that have impacted American farmers. She underscored ongoing efforts to lower grocery costs, particularly for eggs, by strengthening support for poultry farmers in their fight against avian flu. While acknowledging that reversing the trend will take time, she assured participants that proactive measures are being implemented to stabilize prices and protect the industry.
Participants also voiced concerns about the need for increased access to capital for young farmers, strategies to manage production expenses, and enhanced disaster relief programs. In response, Secretary Rollins pledged to collaborate with her team to develop solutions and ensure that financial commitments to farmers are upheld.
The roundtable brought together a diverse group of farmers from seven states—Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Iowa, Arkansas, and West Virginia—including those involved in egg production, dairy, beef, and row crops. Their insights will contribute to shaping policies aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring long-term sustainability.
